Scholas and the Sustainable Development Goals
Scholas works to achieve the SDGs directly, through the implementation and development of educational programs (around art, sports and technology) and the establishment of strategic alliances with multiple social actors.
Scholas also collaborates with the achievement of the SDGs through the promotion and support of the proposals of young people who participate in its educational programs and that cover pressing needs of their communities.
Goal 4, guarantee an inclusive quality education, and promote lifelong learning opportunities, and Goal 17, strengthen the means of implementation and revive the global alliance for sustainable development, are in Scholas’ DNA from its germ, the “Schools of Neighbours”, in Buenos Aires, more than 20 years ago.
Goal 1 (eradicate poverty), 5 (achieve gender equality), 10 (reduce inequalities), 11, (achieve more sustainable cities and communities), 13 (take action to combat climate change) and 16 ( promote peaceful societies), are reflected in the reports that in each new edition of its Citizenship program, more than a million young people have delivered to government leaders from different regions of the world.
Scholas is also a member of Mission 4.7, an initiative born in December 2020 that brings together leaders from government, academia, civil society and business to accelerate the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development throughout the world.
SDG number 4 seeks to achieve “quality education” and, within this objective, Mission 4.7 aims to «ensure that all students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, world citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development”.
