Pope Francis’ olive tree planted in the garden of Villa Colonna Bandini

Scholas Occurrentes and Inail Campania celebrated the closing of the project “Together we can change the world” with the Paralympic athlete Claudio De Vivo who planted the olive tree of peace.

Naples, Thursday July 15 – This morning at the headquarters of Villa Colonna Bandini in the presence, among others, of the Director of Inail Campania Daniele Leone and the World Director of Scholas Occurrentes José Maria del Corral was celebrated the conclusion of a series of training sessions of the project “Together we can change the world”.

More than a year after the start of the third edition, it was an exciting moment of encounter after so many months of forced distance, months in which the activities of the project have never stopped, but rather, have continued even in the darkest moments with numerous activities, or even just for “a virtual coffee”. Sport, art and technology are the guidelines in which the third edition of the project of social reintegration addressed to workers who have suffered serious accidents at work and are assisted and supported by Inail Campania. Scholas, through the meetings, listened to the Being, the uniqueness and the beauty that everyone has within themselves, despite the difficulties encountered in life.

The planting of the olive tree was done by the hand of the European Paralympic athletics champion Claudio De Vivo, the Director of Inail Campania Daniele Leone and the World Director of Scholas Occurrentes José Maria del Corral.

Inail Campania Director Daniele Leone “We thank Scholas for allowing us to take care, in other ways, of our guests. This planting represents the work done with the Organization that in this way remains here in Naples, in the best place we could find, not chosen at random, but a place very close to the villa and so, symbolically, close to our heart.”

Scholas Occurrentes World Director José Maria del Corral during the planting recalled that: “When Pope Francis planted his first olive tree, he was keen to remind us that we can think of peace as coming from above or, on the contrary, from below, therefore from ourselves, our hands and our work. For this reason, Pope Francis invites Scholas to plant the olive tree in the whole world together with all sportsmen, artists and young people, with the conviction that the olive tree needs care and water. This is what we are doing in this ‘home’. Thank you for digging with us a ‘hole’ in your heart, so that the experience lived here can grow in you”.

Claudio De Vivo says he is excited to have been present at the final event and at the whole journey and hopes “to find us all here again, in the shade of this olive tree, when it will have grown in a few years”.

About the project

During one of the hardest years of the century we are living, the third edition of the project of social reintegration of Inail Campania and Scholas Occurrentes in mixed mode (online and presential) has been launched: Together we can change the world. Sport, art and technology are the guidelines in which the third edition of the social reintegration project aimed at Inail Campania’s guests was moved. The project ended in June 2021 with two meetings in presence on the art of drawing.

Sport as a vehicle to increase self-esteem and self-confidence, to promote physical, psychological and social well-being with a view to improving the quality of life as a subjective perception that each individual has of his position, in the cultural context and values in which he fits, also and especially in relation to their goals, expectations and concerns.

Art, a tool for personal and collective growth and a means to develop skills and abilities transferable to social and community interaction.

Technology, a transversal tool to promote creativity and propose initiatives that generate peace.
