Already in the third edition of the contest, now writing!
But it’s not just a contest. It is a contest with a contest; an invitation to leave aside for a moment the noise of the pre-established, to remain with open attention during the journey and from listening to the world that is presented to us, to create music as a response. In other words, to return to the origin, to the game where we still let ourselves be amazed and from where, perhaps, we can create and let out those words that express what we want to tell.
Will you join us?

Accept our invitation, enter the course that as a path invites you to deepen and renew your passion for writing, from the game and experimentation, to retrace the known places and give way to creativity.

At the end we will celebrate together what we have created in the ‘Rag Ball Festival’, where the jury and young people from the Scholas community will name those writings, unique pieces that moved them and share them with the whole world.

Celebration

In this edition «WRITING», we invite all those who are passionate about this language, with less or more training, but who have the desire to create texts, stories, poems, of any genre or simply write and express themselves in this way.

Come on and sign up! We will let you know when the platform where this edition of Pelota de Trapo will take place will be available; a play space where you will discover everything: signs as a source of inspiration, exercises as sprouts, and another way of creating from words!

We will go on a journey for fifteen days, where every 48 hours you will receive an invitation that sprouts: a slogan that gives rise to something that sprouts.

This will not be the moment of competition, but of exercise. Exercises that will perhaps allow us to create in a different way a piece with which to compete. Exercises not as the end of a path, but from which to begin to create.

Don’t worry, you won’t be alone. We will send you inspirational material or «signs» to generate areas of resonance, to enter into another atmosphere, so that from another place, something new can happen.

It will be the time to give shape to your writing, with no other slogan than that of creating from your freedom; these will be days to decant everything that emerged in you. 15 days. It will be a different time from the intuition from which the words spring, but a time to polish, to shape or deform your work.

During these 15 days you or your band will be able to upload a text, a work, without requirements, of any genre or literary form that you feel is appropriate for this opportunity and thus give us the chance to appreciate the creation.

Once uploaded, your creation will be read, along with those of all the participants, by a pre-selection committee and then by a jury, who will evaluate, share and make them public to the Scholas community, to be presented on the day of the Celebration.

There is no better way to end a great journey than with a big party to which we will all be invited.

In addition to the participants and guests, the jurors will be present, those people who took the trouble to read and recognise the special features of each work.

There is nothing better to end a great journey than with a big party to which we will all be invited.

In addition to the participants and guests, the jurors will be present, those people who took the trouble to read and recognise the special features of each work.

It will be the moment to share among all of us the works that moved us most and to show them to the world, to give them to listen, the most original educational gesture, to bring us back to the origin, to that rag ball where it all began.

What’s up Pa?

Children and young people who have taken part in other editions of the competition, capture the meaning that is created by setting out on the journey.

RAG BALL: THE ORIGIN

Pelota de trapo was born in 2019 at an educational meeting in Mozambique between young people from Scholas and Pope Francis. There was a party: poetry, dancing, singing and gifts. «But there is one thing that really touched my heart» shared the Pope. Then he showed a small ball made of rags given to him by a young man from Chicomo, with which, in the absence of a football, the children of that region have been playing since they were very young. «When I was a child, I played with a rag ball,» Francis recalled, sharing the story of his own origins, entrusting Scholas with the mission of launching a competition to rekindle the flame of the search for one’s own origins, to re-create it, and to spread it to all nations.
